Every player in an official match MUST record a demo!! All ladders and leagues have this in the rules, also the Cryladder. Just before a match starts you see "Don't forget to record"....that is a hint
There is a way you can record your game while playing with a utility that is already in COD4...
How does it work:
1. Make sure your console is enabled
2. Start recording: Open console and type: "/record filename"
3. Stop recording: Open console and type: "/stoprecord"
Now you have a movie of yourself but you have to perform the next steps to make it playback:
1. Your recording is stored in: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\main\demos"
2. It should be in: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Mods\ModWarfare\demos"
If there is no "demos" folder just create it and paste your recording into that map.
3. Now run COD4 Multiplayer, then select MODS then MODWARFARE
4. Open console and type: "/demo filename"
You are now watching your own movie!!! ;D
The great thing is that it is minimal in size, so no gigabytes that get eaten away by Fraps or Gamecam...Have Fun!
When you want to make a public movie for YouTube or Putfile you can record the playback of the demo with Fraps.
Keybind for demo recording:
You can use the backspace key to start and stop the demo recording, it was working in CoD2 and you can use it in CoD4 as well ;D It also automatically gives the demos a following name like demo0000.dm_1, demo0001.dm_1, demo0002.dm_1 etc. Thx to [22ndSAS] Hanz who posted that along time ago in their forums
Put the following lines in your config_mp.cfg, by default in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\PLAYERNAME\
How to see your framerate in COD4?
Open console and type "/cg_draw FPS 1" and "/cg_draw FPS 0" to turn it off again.
EDIT: just found a CoD4 demoplayer: www.cybopat.net/vb_cod4player.php I havent tested it yet so I dunno if it works tho it looks great:
EDIT2: Just tried it and it works awesome!!
